Summer Week -1
Summer camp starts tomorrow. Over 2,000 people will be on Pine Cove property and I will be hosting over 26 families for a week-long ‘vacation with a purpose.” The past two weeks have been non-stop training and orienting our college staff. I’m tired.
On Life
Most lessons on life lately have been centered on marriage. It is God’s greatest tool for sanctification. And His great stage for laughter. About a month before we got married, Dad told us that “marriage has the ability to steal your laughter” and to never ever let it. Man, I’m thankful for a wife who is as funny as she is beautiful. Also:
1. An iPhone alarm just doesn’t do the trick anymore. Ever, in fact.
2. Reading together before we go to bed is fun. Story time gets better with age.
3. Mail is exciting - unless its medical bills. Then, it sucks.
On Work
I love camp. Ever since Doug Varnado gave me the “Camper of the Week” hat at Whispering Pines when I was in 5th grade, I’ve loved camp. Now, it’s my career. There are about three different skit characters in my car. An eagle owl pooped on my shoe the other day. And I shot a t-shirt cannon at several college students the other day. This isn’t work.
On Faith
I was on my way to get dinner with one of my good friends and fellow camp staffers the other day, talking about Texas, new jobs, marriage, and whatnot, and it was incredible to talk about and look back at how God orchestrates my today through all of my yesterdays. Looking back at the past 5 years, what I’ve experienced and learned, and now what I’m sharing with these college students and families. Where I am now is building what I will be someday.
In all these things, communication is key. Considering others is foremost. And Christ is above all.
